Thinking of using your carrier-provided GSM Handset outside of the United States? (This excludes Sprint, Nextel, Metro PCS, Verizon and many other carriers who only provide CDMA/TDMA services.) There are several items to take into consideration. The handset will generally operate on networks using the 850 and/or 1900 Mhz cellular frequencies. (TMobile uses only 1900, Cingular uses both 1900 and 850. ) Provided your service provider offers international coverage in the regions you will be visiting, and the frequencies are compatible, it should work.

Maxocicat, over at PDA Phone Home, tell us that when she was confronted with a setup problem for the Sony-Ericsson P910a for Cingular, she “was able to get the settings .. from the esato bulletin board. [She now has] pop3 email access to several email accounts thru profimail and web access through opera working perfectly.
